The Fédération des écoles techniques (FET) origins are lost in the mists of time. The exact foundation date has disappeared from memory. Its probable origin was an informal association that became increasingly structured in order to manage a growing number of publications in a more professional fashion. This previous association combined la « Fédération des écoles techniques » which promoted exchanges between schools and « du Fonds de la fédération des écoles techniques », which was affiliated to the Fédération. The latter managed publication of teaching manuels. |

The FET sponsors the promotion of professional vocational training and specifically, through the intermediary of SWISSMEM, lends financial support to electronic engineer student candidates at SwissSkills (Swiss Vocation Championship) and at WorldSkills (International Vocation championship).
The foundation contributes to exchanges between participants in professional training through the organization of information/idea exchanges sessions, particularly those involving new digital technics in teaching, program content, continuing education and the legislation and organization of schools.
With these goals in mind, the Foundation Council has created a committee of individuals called « Réseau de la Fédération des Ecoles Techniques » or « Réseau de la FET » (FET Network) which brings together teachers and directors of Western Swiss Schools.
Within the framework of its mission, the FET conducts, alone or with partners, research on the themes relative to professional vocational training in Switzerland.
The foundation contributes to the promotion of initial and advanced professional training in the technical domain through the editing and publishing of works that serve as course books. This is its main activity. Preferential domains of the FET are:
